BRCC to JMU Co-Admission Program

Academic Requirements

Students who have earned a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and completed at least 24 credits after high school at the end of the two semesters at BRCC will be offered unconditional admission to JMU. Students who do not meet the 3.0 cumulative grade point average and/or credit requirement will still be reviewed and considered for admission, but admission is not guaranteed. Students will be informed of their admission status through their MyMadison account.

Academic Transfer Process

As a Co-Admission student, you will work closely with a JMU Transfer Advisor and a BRCC advisor to build a schedule for your fall and spring semesters at Blue Ridge Community College. Courses will be chosen based on their transferability to JMU and the your intended major, with the goal that you do not wasting time or money.

During the spring semester, the JMU Office of Admissions will reactivate the MyMadison Applicant Center for all Co-Admission students for the fall 2025 semester (no application or application fee required), and you can track any transcripts required to complete your review. You will need to make sure JMU has received a final copy of your high school transcript (showing that you graduated), as well as transcripts for any dual enrollment courses you completed. Dual enrollment transcripts must be requested directly from the college that granted the credit. BRCC will share your official BRCC transcript with the JMU Office of Admissions per the BRCC to JMU Co-Admission FERPA agreement.

BRCC and JMU will request mid-semester grades for all Co-Admission students during both fall and spring semesters. When spring mid-semester grades are available, you will be expected to attend a JMU Admissions Appointment to assess your progress towards meeting the terms of the agreement. If you are not meeting the progression standards, a plan will be made to help you reach those expectations by the end of the spring term.

Transfer Orientation

As a Co-Admission student making the transition to JMU as a sophomore, you will be viewed as a transfer student. Completion of all Transfer One Book steps and attendance at Transfer Summer Orientation will be required. A JMU academic advisor in your major will assist you in building a fall semester class schedule at JMU.
