Water Usage
JMU receives water from the city of Harrisonburg. Water usage had increased gradually since fiscal year 2014 peaking in 2017 but holding steady subsequently through 2019. The abrupt decline in water usage in fiscal years 2020 and 2021 were largely due the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that saw a reduction in water demand across campus.
Water Usage Normalized
Water usage when normalized by total square footage shows decreased usage over the past 5 years despite increase in building square footage size over the same period. The abrupt decline in water usage in fiscal years 2020 and 2021 were largely due the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that saw a reduction in water demand across campus and also due to a sizable increase in building square footage during that period due to several new constructions on campus.
