Jacob Foy Presented original research at the National Consortium of Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID) Virtual Research Symposium on Feb 25th. His research poster was titled: Psychological preparation and coping strategies: Reflections from Paralympians

Brynn Hudgins Presented at the regional American College of Sprots Medicine (ACSM) conference (accepted to present at the national conference), her thesis work titled: Physical Activity in a University Community Before and After a COVID-19 Shut Down.

Literacy 

Shannon McLeod (M.Ed. in Literacy, 2022) published her novella, Whimsy, with Long Day Press.

Summerlyn Thompson (M.Ed. in Literacy, 2020) published her article, “Top Ten Administrator ‘Look-Fors’ in the ESL Classroom” in Reading in Virginia, the journal of the Virginia State Literacy Association.

Middle, Secondary and Mathematics Education

Ann Allred has been recommended as a 2021-2020 Fullbright Semi-Finalist in the Czech Republic to teach English. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a competitive, prestigious scholarship that allows graduating seniors, graduate, and doctorate students to conduct research and promote cultural competency as they immerse in their host country.

Haley Branin presented her multi-genre project titled “Passing on Racial Identity” at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) conference in November

Ryland Jones presented an English education lesson plan at the AAAD conference titled "Teaching Hard History for Racial Healing: The Lynching in Virginia Curriculum Project," and was chosen to be one of seven graduate students who will edit, revise, and prepare lesson plans for the Racial Terror: Lynching in Virginia website.

Becca Sabean presented at The National Council for the Social Studies 100th anniversary with Emily Stegner, Dr. Jaffee and Dr. Cude, and with JMU alumni about different ways to engage with students in social studies!

Emily Stegner was identified as a “Teacher of Promise '' due to her high potential characteristic as a teacher that will greatly impact students in her classroom; and she was also selected to participate in the annual spring conference in which over 36 Virginia colleges and universities gather with master educators to discuss pedagogy. She also presented at the National Council for the Social Studies with Becca Sabean, Dr. Jaffee and Dr. Cude, and with JMU alumni at the 100th anniversary conference!

Alia Stone led a team of graduate students for a curriculum project titled “Teaching Hard Histories for Racial Healing: Lynching in Virginia Curriculum Project” for the website Racial Terror: Lynching in Virginia.

Dan Curran was awarded the 2020 Grogan Memorial Scholarship from the AAPA Veteran's Caucus. This scholarship is provided by the members of the Veterans Caucus and recognizes the achievements of an outstanding veteran of one of the branches of the Uniformed Services who is currently enrolled in a PA program.

School Psychology

Marcus Hubbard collaborated with Katie Overfield-Zook (Operations Manager, JMU College of Business Gilliam Center for Entrepreneurship) to organize Social Ventures: Founders and Leaders, a panel discussion with three nonprofit founders and leaders who are making a true difference in their communities. Guest panelists included Brent Holsinger (President of On the Road Collaborative) Jennifer Marshall (This is My Brave) and Jon Katov (The Open Table), with Marcus serving as facilitator. Marcus also presented (2021, February 18-19). Choice Theory: Unlocking the Success of the “Japanese Post-War Economic Miracle” for American Companies. 2nd Bi-Annual Leading Change Virtual Conference.

Kathleen Johnson accepted a new position as Emergency Management Specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the Public Assistance Division. Kathleen's division works to provide aid to state, local governments, and certain non-profits in the wake of major disasters to help communities in their recovery efforts.

Maureen Malomba is working on several publications as a result of her work on this project including: A book chapter in an upcoming Nonprofit Series titled Crisis Management: Response to COVID-19 (Sagamore publishing) and An upcoming manuscript published in the Journal of Nonprofit Educational Leadership (Currently under review) Maureen and Dr. Sloan are also working on 2 papers to present at the upcoming Leading Change Virtual Conference Their works include a Nonprofit Leadership Literature Review and a paper titled A Rural Perspective on COVID Responses: Access, Interdependence, and Community.
