Pre-professional health (PPH) programs outline a set of courses, activities, and competencies that commonly serve as pre-requisites for admissions to masters or doctoral health professions programs. PPH programs are not majors, so you need to declare a major along with your PPH program. With ample preparation, you can become a competitive applicant to professional health programs regardless of your baccalaureate degree program. Declaring a PPH program gives you access to classes that you need to meet pre-requisites for acceptance to professional health programs and access to advising information beyond classes. Advising for these programs is provided by Pre-Professional Health Advising.
The following are PPH programs available at James Madison University:
- Pre-Athletic Training
- Pre-Dentistry
- Pre-Medicine
- Pre-Occupational Therapy
- Pre-Optometry
- Pre-Pharmacy
- Pre-Physical Therapy
- Pre-Physician Assistant
- Pre-Veterinary Medicine
There are health professions advisors for each minor program. Please go the program website to find advisors’ information.
During the fall and spring semester, Madison Advising Peers are available for drop-in hours in the Pre-Professional Health Advising office (Roop G24) to assist students. Please check the Pre-Professional Health Advising website for their hours.
