UREC 258

Jessie Purcell joined the UREC team in January 2024 as the Assistant Director for Fitness & Nutrition. As the Assistant Director, Jessie oversees the Coordinators and Graduate Assistants for the Fitness and Group Exercise programs as well as general oversight of both program areas. In addition, Jessie manages the UREC Demonstration Kitchen, student cooking instructors, and UREC nutrition programming.

Jessie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Management from James Madison University in 2007. During her time as an undergraduate, Jessie served as a Recreation Assistant and an Operation Supervisor at UREC. After graduation, Jessie held positions as a Recreation Programs Coordinator at Augusta County Parks and Recreation and Wellness Coordinator at Summit Square Retirement Community. During this time, Jessie obtained her ACSM Personal Training certification and began taking on virtual and in-person clients. She then transitioned to General Manager of a CrossFit Affiliate, eventually purchasing the business in 2018. During her time as a business owner, Jessie earned her Master of Science from Logan University in Nutrition and Human Performance and implemented nutrition coaching services and seminars, serving both individual and corporate clients. She has the privilege of continuing to be a silent, non-acting partner in her gym’s ownership team.

Jessie was born in Winchester, VA but grew up in Keyser, WV. She currently lives in Augusta County with her husband, two kids, and black lab. She enjoys being outside, camping and attending her kid’s sporting events. She loves to workout specifically focusing on CrossFit, olympic lifting and powerlifting components, but also enjoys participating in all fitness classes. Her favorite aspect about UREC is the friendly inclusive environment and employees as well as the opportunities for students and employees to develop personally and professionally.
