UREC offers a wide variety of hiking and backpacking trips and clinics. They range from more introductory level onsite clinics to overnight trips. All experience levels are welcome. To learn more about each type of trip and clinic offered, visit each section below.
Registration for hiking and backpacking trips and clinics takes place on URECRegister and opens at the beginning of each semester.
Onsite Clinics
Onsite hiking and backpacking clinics are introductory level and designed for participants to learn and become more comfortable with hiking and backpacking. They take place at UREC in the Adventure Center.
Examples of clinics and events include:

Weekday Adventures
Weekday hiking and backpacking trips are short trips during the week to local hiking and backpacking destinations. They typically take place in the late afternoon or early evening.
Examples of past trips include:
- Full Moon Hike
- Walk-A-Paca
- Yoga Hike
Weekend Day Trips
Weekend day hiking and backpacking trips are trips during the weekend to local hiking and backpacking destinations. They typically start in the morning and return to UREC in the early afternoon or evening.
Examples of past trips include:

- Hiking & Hotcakes at Massanutten
- Old Rag Hiking Trip
Overnight Trips
Overnight bouldering and climbing trips are trips during the weekend to bouldering and climbing destinations.
