To ensure a safe, welcoming, and motivating environment, participants must comply with University Policies and policies posted online and in the facilities.
University Park Policies
- University Park is open to all JMU students, faculty, and staff during designated hours posted on the UREC website. Your valid JACard or UREC App are required to enter into the facility.
- This is an alcohol, cannabis and nicotine free facility. No vaping permitted. Individuals suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or illegal drugs will not be permitted access.
- No glass, gum, or open flames permitted in this facility.
- Participants may not use bikes, skateboards, scooters or hockey sticks inside this facility. In-line/roller skates may be used on sidewalks only.
- Pet owners must keep their pet leashed and attended to at all times. Pets are not permitted on synthetic turf or sand, and they cannot be tied to anything. Owners are responsible to clean up after their pets using provided bags and receptacles.
- UREC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Advertising, sponsorship, media activities, and use of camera equipment requires advance approval. Consent is required to take photos or videos of other participants.
- Individuals hosting guests must stay in the facility and are responsible for the conduct of their guest(s). Children 15 and under may only use facilities during family hours and must remain in the company of their host at all times.
University Park Basketball Courts
- Priority is given to those with prior approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Welcome Center in the Gatehouse.
- Closed-toe, non-marking athletic shoes must be worn on the basketball courts.
- All personal belongings and extra equipment must be kept in the bench areas.
- Dunking is permitted. No hanging on rims/nets.
- Pets are not permitted on the courts, and they must be kept at a safe distance on a leash with a person.
- While full-court games are in progress, spectators may not shoot at either basket.
University Park Pavilion
- Priority is given to those with prior approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Welcome Center in the Gatehouse.
- Use of the grill is permitted with prior reservation.
- Dispose of all trash before leaving the pavilion.
- Any furniture or equipment that is moved must be returned to its original location.
University Park Multi-Purpose Turf
- Priority is given to those with prior approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Welcome Center in the Gatehouse.
- Metal spikes are not permitted.
- Pets are not permitted on synthetic turf and must be kept outside the fence on a leash with a person.
- No sunflower seeds or gum.
- Do not adjust, move, or hang on goals. If adjustments are needed, please contact a UREC staff member.
University Park Sand Volleyball Courts
- Priority is given to those with prior approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Welcome Center in the Gatehouse.
- Pets are not permitted on the sand, and they must be kept at a safe distance on a leash with a person.
- Do not adjust, move, or hang on the volleyball nets. If adjustments are needed, please contact a UREC staff member.
University Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts
- Priority is given to those with prior approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Welcome Center in the Gatehouse.
- Do not adjust or sit on nets. If adjustments are needed, please contact a UREC staff member.
- Do not climb fences to retrieve tennis balls.
- Pets are not permitted in the courts and must be kept outside the fence on a leash with a person.
- Courts are intended for tennis and pickleball only. Use for any other purpose must be approved at the UREC Gatehouse.
Disc Golf
- This course is open to the public from dawn to dusk. All use is on a first come, first served basis, except during approved reservations on the trails or the course. If you have a confirmed reservation, check in at the UREC Gatehouse. Unauthorized use or activity is strictly prohibited.
- Alcohol, tobacco products, and open flames are not permitted on the course.
- Pet owners must keep their pet leashed and cannot leave their animal unattended. Owners are responsible to clean up after their pets using provided bags and receptacles.
- Children under 16 must be supervised.
- Dispose of all trash before and after you play.
- Do not throw off a tee until the group in front of you has cleared the hole.
- UREC members may check out discs, scorecards and pencils at UREC's University Park Gatehouse.
- Restrooms, shelter and assistance are available at University Park (540-568-8793). For emergencies, call JMU Campus Police (540-568-6911).
JMU Trail Loops
- Trails are open to the public from dawn to dusk.
- No alcohol, nicotene or cannabis products.
- No open flames or use of matches or lighters.
- Pet owners must keep their pet leashed and cannot leave their animal unattended. Owners are responsible to clean up after their pets using provided bags and receptacles.
- Children under 16 must be supervised.
- Moving, cutting or otherwise damaging any timber, tree or other forest product is prohibited.
- Only emergency and service vehicles are permitted on trails. No bicycles.
