Installing the VMware Horizon Client on Windows
- Visit JMU’s available software page.
- Click the Windows link next to VMware Horizon to download the installer.
- Sign in with your eID and password. Save the file if prompted.
- After the download is complete, double-click the VMware-Horizon…exe file in your Downloads folder
- If you are prompted to authenticate, enter your local computer administrator user name (.\eIDx) and password.
- Click Yes.
- The VMware Horizon setup box will appear. Click Agree & Install.
- Once the install has completed, VMware Horizon will require a restart. Click Restart Now.
For the next steps, you must be connected to JMU’s SSL VPN service. See SSL VPN for more information and installation instructions.
- Once the computer has restarted, launch the VMware Horizon Client.
- Click Add Server.
- In the dialog box, type https://it-conn1-vdi.ad.jmu.edu
- Click Connect.
- Enter your eID and password.
- Click Login.
Installing the VMware Horizon Client on Mac
- Visit JMU’s available software page.
- Click the MacOS link next to VMware Horizon to dowload the installer.
- Sign in with your eID and password. Save the file if prompted.
- After the download is complete, double-click the VMware-Horizon…dmg file in your Downloads folder.
- In the new VMware Horizon Client window, double-click VMware Horizon Client.pkg.
- Click Continue twice, then click Install.
- If you are prompted to authenticate, enter your local computer administrator user name (eIDx) and password.
- Click Close to complete the install.
- Click Move to Trash if prompted.
- Click OK.

- Double-click VMware Horizon Client.app in your Applications folder.
- If asked, “Are you sure you want to open it?” click Open.
- At the Login window, enter eID and password (the server is prepopulated).
- Click Login.
