General Information Regarding Lab Reservations

  • Semester-long reservations are given priority over single reservations
  • Semester-long reservations do not include final exam week. If you are planning to have a final exam in one of the labs, you must make a separate single reservation
  • The deadline to request semester-long reservations is two weeks after the Final Proof Date for turning in classes to the Office of the Registrar
  • Most labs are hosted by a single department/college which is typically the primary department that occupies the building housing the lab. Priority is given to host departments for semester-long reservations
  • After the deadline for semester-long reservations, single reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Semester-long reservations may be made after the deadline date but there may be conflicts with already accepted single reservations
  • Departments/colleges that have multiple semester-long reservations are responsible for the coordination of their reservation requests, and a collective list should be submitted to the lab manager
  • Certain labs are in high demand. Therefore, approval of reservation requests is not guaranteed. Class size is a significant determining factor when reservation conflicts arise. In the event of a conflict, we may offer an alternate lab which will accommodate the class size

FAQs

I have a semester long reservation. Do I need to reserve the lab for finals week?

Semester long reservations end the last day of classes. If you will need the lab for a final exam, you will need to make a separate reservation.

Why don't you accept single reservations during the last two weeks of classes?

If you have a semester long reservation, you may use the lab through the end of classes. No single reservations are taken during the last two weeks of classes. This allows students more access to the labs in the two weeks before final exam week. You may make a single reservation during finals week.

I completed a Software Installation Request Form. What happens now?

We will make every effort to process your software installation requests prior to your reservation. Please test the software before your class.

Do I have to make a reservation in advance?

Single reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. The deadline to request semester-long reservations is two weeks after the Final Proof Date for turning in classes to the Office of the Registrar.

Do I have to be in the lab during my reservation time?

An instructor must be present throughout the reserved time period.

What happens if I am late for my reservation?

If the instructor and students do not show up within 15 minutes of the starting time, the reservation will be cancelled.

I need to cancel my reservation. Whom do I contact?

If you find that you do not need to use the lab, please call 568-3672 to notify the lab manager as soon as possible.

My class only has 10 students, and students who are not part of my class want to work in the lab during my reserved time. May I ask them to leave?

You are not required to allow students into the lab who are not in your class. You may choose to do so.

Are there projectors in the labs?

Overhead projectors are available in all labs that are available for reservation. With the exception of the Showker and Harrison labs, remotes are located in lockboxes in the labs. In Showker, the remote may be checked out from the lab assistants and, in Harrison, remote controls are located on the instructor consoles.

I ask that my students work on their projects outside of class time. Can I reserve the lab for students only?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept lab reservations unless you plan to be there. Students are welcome to use the lab any time it is open and not already scheduled.

We will be working through lunch. May I bring food and drink into the lab?

Food and drink ARE NOT ALLOWED in the labs and will be immediately removed from the lab without warning. This is to protect the facility and equipment from damaging accidents.
